A Look Back in Time

Bazine got its start in the 1870s. It became an important stop and shipping point for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. This railroad helped connect communities and move goods across the country.

The city was named after a French general named François Achille Bazaine. The first post office in Bazine opened its doors in 1874. This meant people could send and receive mail, which was a big deal back then!

Schools in Bazine

The community of Bazine is part of the Western Plains USD 106 public school district. The high school's sports teams are called the Bobcats.

The Western Plains school district was created in 2004. This happened when two smaller districts, Ransom USD 302 and Bazine USD 304, joined together. Since then, Bazine has hosted the junior high school. Ransom hosts the high school. Both communities still have their own elementary schools.

Bazine High School History

Bazine High School closed when the school districts combined. The last year it was open, there were 41 students. Six of those students graduated. After it closed, students went to other schools nearby. These included schools in Ness City and Ransom.

In 2004, the old Bazine High School building was even listed for sale online! A businessman from California bought the 78-year-old building for $55,000.
