Bealville is a small, unincorporated community in Kern County, California. This means it is a settlement that is not officially governed by a local city or town. It is located about 1.25 miles (2 kilometers) south of Caliente. Bealville sits at an elevation of about 1,811 feet (552 meters) above sea level.
The community was named after Edward Fitzgerald Beale. He was an important person who owned land nearby called Rancho El Tejon.
A Look Back in Time
Bealville has a history connected to the railroads. The Southern Pacific Railroad set up a depot and a telegraph office here in 1876. A depot is like a station where trains stop. The telegraph office allowed people to send messages over long distances. These services were important for the community and the railroad.
The depot and telegraph office stayed open until 1913. Bealville also had its own post office for a short time, from 1879 to 1881.
