Bear Canyon Lake is a fun lake built especially for people who love to fish! The Arizona Game and Fish Department created it for anglers (that's what we call people who fish). The awesome folks at the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest help take care of all the facilities around the lake. They are part of the USDA Forest Service.

Where is Bear Canyon Lake?

Bear Canyon Lake is located in Arizona. It's about an hour's drive northeast of a town called Payson, Arizona. Getting to the lake can be tricky in winter. The roads usually close from November until late April because of all the snow. So, it's best to visit when the weather is warmer!

What's Special About the Lake?

Bear Canyon Lake is about 60 acres (24 ha) big. That's like 45 football fields! At its deepest point, the lake goes down about 50 feet (15 m). That's as tall as a five-story building! The lake sits high up, at an elevation of 7,560 feet (2,300 m).

The Arizona Game and Fish Department makes sure there are plenty of fish for you to catch. They regularly add "catchable-sized" rainbow trout to the lake. They do this about six times every year! So, if you love fishing, this is a great place to visit.
