Becker Lake is a special lake in Arizona that's great for fishing! It's actually a man-made lake, called a reservoir, and it's managed to be a top spot for catching big trout. You can find Becker Lake near the town of Springerville, Arizona.

This lake is part of a larger area called the Becker Lake Wildlife Area, which covers about 622-acre (252 ha). Becker Lake was built a long time ago, around the year 1880. This makes it one of the oldest reservoirs in the beautiful White Mountains region. The Arizona Game and Fish Department took over the lake and the land around it in 1973. The lake sits high up, at an elevation of about 6,910 feet (2,110 m).

The lake was originally created by two people named Gustav and Julius Becker. That's how it got its name!

What is Becker Lake Like?

Becker Lake covers about 107 acres (43 ha) of water. It can be as deep as 21 feet (6.4 m) in some spots, but its average depth is around 10 feet (3.0 m). The lake gets its water from a special path that diverts water from the Little Colorado River. The Arizona Game and Fish Department owns the rights to this water. This means they can make sure the lake always has enough water.

The department regularly adds young Rainbow trout to the lake. They do this twice a year! Many of these fish survive through the winter. They grow bigger and bigger, becoming a great size for fishing by the next spring. Besides trout, you might also find native Little Colorado suckers in the lake.

Fun Things to Do at Becker Lake

Becker Lake is a great place for outdoor activities. If you like to fish, there's a handy boat ramp where you can launch your boat. There's also a dirt parking area for your car. And don't worry, there's a restroom that's easy for everyone to use.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department has also created two hiking trails. These trails let you explore the beautiful Becker Lake Wildlife Area. It's a perfect spot to enjoy nature and maybe even see some local wildlife!
