Becky Cloonan (born June 23) is a talented American comic book creator. She is known for her amazing art and stories published by companies like Tokyopop and Vertigo. In 2012, she made history. She became the first female artist to draw the main Batman comic book series for DC Comics.

Her Early Life
Becky Cloonan was born in Pisa, Italy. She later moved to the United States. She studied art at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
Her Amazing Career in Comics
Becky Cloonan started her career by creating comics with her friends. They made a collection of comics called Meathaus. She also made small, self-published comics called minicomics.
Later, she worked with writer Brian Wood. They created Channel Zero: Jennie One in 2003. Their most famous work together is the twelve-issue comic series Demo (2004). This series was very popular. A magazine called Wizard named Demo its "Indie of the Year" in 2004. The series was also nominated for two Eisner Awards in 2005. These awards are like the "Oscars" for comic books!
Cloonan's first graphic novel that she wrote and drew herself was East Coast Rising Volume 1. Tokyopop released it in 2006. This book earned her another Eisner Award nomination in 2007. She also worked on the series American Virgin for Vertigo Comics.
Becoming a Batman Artist
In 2012, Becky Cloonan achieved a big milestone. She became the first woman to draw the main Batman comic book series. This was a very important moment in comic book history.
Working on Other Cool Comics
In 2013, she drew the art for The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. This series was written by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon. From 2014 to 2015, she also helped create Gotham Academy for DC Comics. She drew the covers and stories for this series.
In 2017, Becky Cloonan joined the Pow! Wow! Worcester festival. This event brings large public murals to buildings. Cloonan painted a big mural on the side of a comic shop called That's Entertainment.
In 2021, DC Comics announced a new series called Batgirls. Becky Cloonan and Michael W. Conrad co-wrote this comic. It focuses on Barbara Gordon helping young heroes Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown. The first issue came out in December 2021 and received good reviews.

Becky Cloonan has received many honors for her work. In 2015, she was voted #3 among the top 50 female comics artists of all time. She was also recognized as one of the top writers, ranking #14 among all-time top writers. This shows how talented she is as both an artist and a writer!
In 2023, she won the Inkpot Award. In 2024, Cloonan won an Eisner Award for Best New Series. This was for her work with Tula Lotay on Somna: A Bed Time Story.
