Bedd-y-Cawr Hillfort is an ancient hillfort from the Iron Age period. It is located on a natural high point in Cefnmeiriadog, a community in Denbighshire, North Wales. The name Bedd-y-Cawr comes from the Welsh words for "Giant's Tomb".
This historic site is a scheduled monument, which means it is protected by law. It lies about 3.3 kilometers (2 miles) west of St Asaph. It is also about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) north of Henllan.

What is Bedd-y-Cawr Hillfort?
This hillfort sits at the end of the Cefn Meiriadog ridge. This spot offers amazing views over the River Elwy valley. Many other hillforts are found in this area.
How Big is the Hillfort?
Bedd-y-Cawr Hillfort is shaped like a rough rectangle. It measures about 156 meters (170 yards) long. It is about 74 meters (81 yards) wide. The total area of the hillfort is about 0.8 hectares (2 acres).
How Was it Protected?
The hillfort was protected by a ditch and a bank on its north-west and north-east sides. It had a simple entrance for people to go in and out. On the west and east sides, natural rock outcrops of limestone helped protect the site.
History of Bedd-y-Cawr
Experts have been studying Bedd-y-Cawr for a long time. The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments in Wales and Monmouthshire visited the site in 1912.
When Was it Protected?
Bedd-y-Cawr was officially made a scheduled monument in 1927. This means it became a protected historical site. In 1998, the protected area was made larger. Before that, only the inside of the hillfort was protected. Today, it is known as a defensive prehistoric hillfort.
