Beecher is a community in Genesee County, in the state of Michigan, United States. It is also known as the Beecher Metropolitan District. It's called a census-designated place (CDP) because the U.S. Census Bureau tracks its population. In 2020, about 8,840 people lived there.
Beecher is located on the east side of Mount Morris Township. It's where Interstate 475 turns west, between the cities of Flint and Mount Morris. Part of Beecher is also in the western area of Genesee Township.
Several important local groups use the name "Beecher." These include the Beecher Community School District, the Beecher Fire Department, and the Beecher Metropolitan Water and Sewer District.

Geography of Beecher
Beecher covers an area of about 15.3 square kilometers (5.9 square miles). A very small part of this area, about 0.05 square kilometers (0.02 square miles), is water.
The community uses different ZIP codes depending on the area. The southern part of Beecher uses Flint ZIP codes (48504 and 48505). The northern part uses the Mount Morris ZIP code (48458).
Even though it shares a name, Beecher Road is mostly in Flint Township and Clayton Township. It is not mainly within Beecher itself.
People of Beecher
The population of Beecher has changed over the years.

- In 2010, the population was 10,232.
- By 2020, it had decreased to 8,840 people.
Most people in Beecher are either White or Black/African American. In 2020, about 23% of the population was White, and about 67% was Black or African American. There are also smaller groups of Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, and people of mixed races. About 4% of the population is Hispanic or Latino.
The community is sometimes called "Buc-town." This nickname comes from the mascot of the local schools, which are the Buccaneers.
The Beecher Tornado
On June 8, 1953, a very powerful tornado hit the Beecher area. It touched down around 8:30 pm, just north of Flint. This storm caused a lot of damage and sadness.
The tornado was about 0.5 miles (0.8 kilometers) wide. It moved slowly, destroying 340 houses and badly damaging many others. Sadly, 116 people died in the Beecher district because of this tornado. Another 844 people were hurt.
The worst damage happened between Clio Road and N. Dort Highway. This area had many small homes and some businesses. The Beecher tornado is one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history. It is currently ranked as the 10th deadliest.
Famous People from Beecher
Many notable people have connections to Beecher:
- Carl Banks: A famous football player who played as a linebacker for the New York Giants, Washington Redskins, and Cleveland Browns. He graduated from Beecher High School.
- Courtney Hawkins: Another football player who was a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers. He also graduated from high school in Beecher.
- Carol Yager: Known as one of the most severely obese people in history.
- Jaylein Auther-Henry Cantrell: A rapper known by his stage name, YN Jay.
