Mount Morris is a city located in Genesee County, Michigan, in the United States. It is part of the larger Flint metropolitan area. In 2010, about 3,086 people lived here. The city is next to Mount Morris Township on its west side and Genesee Township on its east side. The city was named after Mount Morris, New York, because many of the first people who settled here came from that place.

History of Mount Morris
Early Settlers and Naming
The first person to settle in the Mount Morris area was Benjamin Pearson in 1833. A few years later, in 1836, Frederick Walker became the first settler right where the village would later be built. A post office was opened on July 11, 1837, and it was called Mount Morris. Charles N. Beecher was the first postmaster, which means he was in charge of the post office.
Changes to the Post Office Name
The post office name changed a few times. It was called Genesee for a while starting in 1839. Then it went back to Mount Morris in 1857. In 1865, it became Mount Morris Station, and finally, in 1874, it was officially named Mount Morris again.
Growth and Becoming a City
The area started to grow faster when a railway line was built in 1857. This railway is now owned by the Lake State Railway. In 1862, the settlement was first mapped out and called Dover. It officially became a village named Mount Morris in 1867. Later, in 1929, Mount Morris changed from a village to a city.
Modern Water Supply
More recently, in November 2017, Mount Morris and other nearby towns started getting their water from the Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline. This water is treated by the Genesee County Drain Commission.
