Beechgrove, sometimes called Beech Grove, is a small community in Coffee County, Tennessee, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Beechgrove is located in the northwestern part of Coffee County. It sits right where three important roads meet: Interstate 24, U.S. Route 41, and State Route 64. This makes it a key spot for travel. The community also has its own post office with the ZIP code 37018.

The name of the community has an interesting story. It was originally called "Beech Grove." However, when ZIP codes were created for post offices, another "Beech Grove" in a different county got its code first. To avoid confusion, the post office in Coffee County had its name officially changed to "Beechgrove." Even though local people weren't happy about it, the new name stuck!

History of Beechgrove

The community of Beechgrove got its name from the many beech trees that grew nearby. These trees were a common sight when the area was first settled. A post office has been serving the people of Beechgrove since 1836, showing how long the community has been active.

The Battle of Hoover's Gap

An important historical event happened near Beechgrove during the American Civil War. From June 24 to June 26, 1863, the Battle of Hoover's Gap took place around the community. This battle was a significant moment in the war.

Today, the Beechgrove Confederate Cemetery is located on a hill overlooking Interstate 24. This cemetery is part of the original battlefield. It contains 56 graves, and 52 of them belong to soldiers whose names are unknown. It serves as a reminder of the history that unfolded in this area.
