Beersel is a town in the province of Flemish Brabant. This area is part of the Flemish region of Belgium. Beersel is located about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) southwest of the center of Brussels.
The municipality of Beersel includes several smaller towns. These are Alsemberg, Beersel itself, Dworp, Huizingen, and Lot. As of January 1, 2023, Beersel had a total population of 26,473 people. The total area of Beersel is 30.01 square kilometers (11.59 square miles). This means that about 856 people live in each square kilometer.
Beersel is most famous for its historic Beersel Castle. This castle was built between the years 1300 and 1310. It was created by Jean II, Duke of Brabant, to help protect the city of Brussels.
A famous person, Guillaume Dufay, was likely born in Beersel. He was an important composer from the 15th century.
