Begoña Huertas Uhagón (1965–2022) was a talented writer and journalist from Spain. She was known for her essays and novels. One of her big achievements was winning the Casa de las Américas Prize for her essay about Cuban literature.

About Begoña Huertas
Begoña Huertas was born in Gijón, Spain, on August 4, 1965. She loved studying Spanish language and literature. She earned a special degree called a doctorate from the Autonomous University of Madrid. Her studies focused on literature from Latin American countries.
After her studies, Begoña worked as a visiting teacher at the University of Michigan. Later, she became a research fellow at the University of Barcelona. This means she did important research there.
Huertas also worked as an editor for different publishing companies. She helped other writers get their books ready. She also taught creative writing at the Autonomous University of Madrid. This helped new writers learn how to tell their own stories.
She wrote for many Spanish cultural magazines. From 2010 to 2012, she wrote opinion pieces for a newspaper called Público. Later, she became a regular writer for ElDiario.es.
Her Writing Career
In 1993, Begoña Huertas won the Casa de las Américas Prize. She won it for her essay titled Ensayo de un cambio: la narrativa cubana en la década de los 80. This essay was about Cuban stories from the 1980s.
After that, she published a collection of short stories called A tragos in 1996. She continued to write many novels. One of her novels, Una noche en Amalfi, was even compared to the exciting books by Patricia Highsmith by RTVE.
Her last novel was El sótano. It was published in 2023, after she had passed away. Writers praised it as a "beautiful testament" and a "wonderful invitation to reflect on the uncertainty of life and writing."
Begoña Huertas passed away on December 25, 2022, in Madrid.
