Behrouz Afagh is an important person at the BBC World Service. He leads the BBC's work in the Asia and Pacific regions. He was born and grew up in Iran. Later, he studied at Tehran University and the University of Surrey in Britain. He has lived in Britain since 1978.

What Does Behrouz Afagh Do?

Behrouz Afagh helps manage many of the BBC's news and media services. These services are for people in Asia and the Pacific. He makes sure the news and programs are well-made. They are broadcast in many different languages, like Azeri, Bengali, Burmese, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Kyrgyz, Nepali, Pashto, Persian, Sinhala, Tamil, Urdu and Uzbek. He also helped start the BBC Persian television service for Iran in 2008.

His Journey at the BBC

Behrouz Afagh started working at the BBC World Service in 1983. He began as a producer and editor for the Persian news service. He also worked as an editor for the Vietnamese Service.

In 1994, he helped create the BBC Central Asian Service. This service brought news to people in Central Asia. He became the Editor of the Eurasia Region in 1999. From March 2003, he was the Head of the Eurasia Region. In April 2006, he became the Head of the Asia Pacific Region. This is his current role, where he oversees many important BBC services.
