Behrouz Vossoughi's Early Life
Behrouz Vossoughi was born in a city called Khoy in Iran. When he was a teenager, he moved to Tehran, which is the capital city. He has two brothers, Changiz Vossoughi and Shahrad Vossoughi.
In the 1970s, Vossoughi was married for a short time to the Iranian singer Googoosh. Today, he lives in Marin County, California, with his wife, Katayoun "Katty" Amjadi.
Behrouz Vossoughi's Acting Career
Behrouz Vossoughi started his acting career in films in 1962. His first movies were Toofan dar Shahre Ma and Gole gomshodeh. He became a big star after playing the main character in the movie Qeysar in 1969. This movie was about revenge and was directed by Masoud Kimiai. Vossoughi won the Best Actor Award at the Sepas Film Festival for his role in Qeysar.
He worked with director Masoud Kimiai on five more films. These included Dash Akol (1971) and The Deer (1974), where he played Seyed Rasoul. One of his most praised performances was as Zar Mohamad in Tangsir (1973). In this movie, he played a farmer looking for justice. In 1975, Vossoughi also appeared in The Beehive as a character named Ebi. Later, in 1978, he worked with Ali Hatami on the film Sooteh-Delan.
Behrouz Vossoughi was one of the first Iranian actors to work in movies made with American and European film companies. He acted in Caravans (1978) alongside famous actors like Anthony Quinn. He also appeared in The Invincible Six (1970) and Sphinx (1981).
In 2000, at the San Francisco Film Festival, a famous director named Abbas Kiarostami received the Akira Kurosawa Prize. However, he gave the award to Vossoughi to honor his great contributions to Iranian cinema. In 2012, Vossoughi was a judge at the Noor Iranian Film Festival. He is also a judge on a show called Persian Talent Show.
