The village of Belfast is in Plainfield Township, Pennsylvania. It was one of the first places settled in the township. People believe it was named after the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland. Early settlers, mainly from Germany and Wales, arrived here in the late 1700s.

Belfast was first called Belleville or Bellville. This name came from its beautiful views. The name Belfast started being used after the American Civil War.
