Belle's Tales of Friendship is a fun direct-to-video movie from Disney. It mixes real people with cartoons. This film came out on August 17, 1999. It's like a prequel to Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. The movie also helped promote a TV show called Sing Me a Story with Belle. In the movie, Belle tells stories from classic Disney cartoons. Lynsey McLeod plays Belle in the live-action parts.

The movie also features the voices of Paige O'Hara as Belle, Robby Benson as Beast, David Ogden Stiers as Cogsworth, and Jerry Orbach as Lumiere. They appear in an animated short film called Mrs. Potts' Party.

What the Story is About

Belle's Storytelling Time

Belle owns a music and bookstore in France. Kids love to visit her because she's a fantastic storyteller! Belle agrees to share some tales. While she tells stories, the children also play games and learn important life lessons.

Belle narrates two classic Disney cartoons: Morris the Midget Moose and Hansel and Gretel. The children help Belle clean her bookstore. She also reads The Wise Little Hen and The Three Little Pigs. During these stories, Belle adds music and talks with the children.

Mrs. Potts' Party

This film includes a special animated story called Mrs. Potts' Party. It was originally planned for a Beauty and the Beast TV show. In this cartoon, Belle is still living in the Beast's castle. The magical spell is still active.

One day, Mrs. Potts feels sad because of bad weather. Belle decides to cheer her up with a surprise party! Belle sees Mrs. Potts like a mother. While getting ready, Belle and her friends must be quiet. They don't want to wake the Beast, who is sleeping. He spent all night fixing a roof leak.

However, Lumiere and Cogsworth start to argue. They compete over who will pick the music, Mrs. Potts' favorite flowers, and the cake flavors. Two oven mitts, Chaud and Tres, even join the argument!

Their rivalry causes problems. The cake explodes, making a huge mess in the kitchen. Belle scolds Lumiere and Cogsworth. They decide to stop fighting and work together. They make a small, sweet surprise for Mrs. Potts. The plan works! Mrs. Potts feels happy again, and the sun shines. Everyone learns how important it is to cooperate and compromise.

This animated short was later released again in 2003. It was part of another film called Belle's Magical World.
