The Story of Belling the Cat
Long ago, a group of mice had a big meeting. They wanted to find a way to stay safe from their biggest enemy, the Cat. The Cat was very sneaky and would often surprise them.
After many ideas were shared, a young mouse stood up. He had a plan he thought would solve their problem. "Our main danger," he explained, "is that the Cat comes silently. If we knew when she was near, we could easily escape!"
He then suggested, "Let's get a small bell and tie it with a ribbon around the Cat's neck. That way, we'll always hear her coming and have time to hide!" All the other mice cheered and clapped for this clever idea.
But then, an old, wise mouse slowly stood up. "That's a great idea," he said, "but who among us will actually put the bell on the Cat?" The mice looked at each other. No one spoke. It was easy to think of a solution, but much harder to carry it out.
