Belva is a small community in West Virginia, United States. It is considered an unincorporated community and a census-designated place. This means it's a recognized place, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
Belva is located where two creeks, Bells Creek and Twentymile Creek, meet the Gauley River. The community is split between west Nicholas County and north Fayette County. Belva is also where two state highways, West Virginia Route 16 and West Virginia Route 39, come together.
Belva's Story
Belva got its name from a special person. It was named after Belva Ann Lockwood. She was an important woman who ran for president a long time ago. She was also an early feminist, meaning she believed in equal rights for women.
The town's post office opened in 1885. This means people could send and receive mail there.
