History of Belvidere Township
Belvidere Township was officially set up in the year 1858. This means it started to be recognized as its own local area for government purposes.

Belvidere Township covers an area of about 35.6 square miles (92.2 square kilometers). All of this area is land; there are no large lakes or rivers within its borders.

Belvidere Mills
Belvidere Mills is one of these communities in Belvidere Township. It is still around today. A long time ago, from 1877 to 1905, it had its own post office. It was also a stop for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St Paul Railroad, which means trains used to pass through and stop there.
Thoten/Belvidere
Another community in the township was known as Thoten, and for a short time, Belvidere. This place also had a post office from 1878 to 1883. There was also a flour mill here, located on a stream called Wells Creek. Flour mills are places where grain is ground into flour.

In 2000, there were 458 people living in Belvidere Township. These people lived in 149 different homes, and 120 of these were families.
