Career in Filmmaking
Ben Ramsey started his career in Hollywood in 1996. His first major project was writing the script for The Big Hit, a movie starring Mark Wahlberg that was released by Sony Pictures.
Later, he wrote the screenplay for Dragonball Evolution, which was based on the famous Japanese manga and anime series. He also directed action movies that were released directly to video, such as Blood and Bone and Love and a Bullet. More recently, he directed a short film called Black Salt.
The Story of Dragonball Evolution
The movie Dragonball Evolution, released in 2009, was not well-liked by many fans of the original Dragon Ball series. This led to a lot of discussion online.
An Apology to the Fans
In 2016, Ramsey publicly apologized for how the movie turned out. He explained that he took on the project for business reasons, not because he was a fan of the original story. He said that when you create something without passion, the result is often not very good. He felt bad that so many people were disappointed with the film.
A Later Explanation
Five years later, in 2021, Ramsey shared more of his thoughts on his Facebook page. He explained that the final movie was very different from the script he originally wrote. He said that his first script was much better and was the reason famous director Stephen Chow had agreed to be a producer.
Ramsey said he only apologized in 2016 because he felt the fans deserved an apology, and he didn't think anyone else involved with the movie would give them one. He wanted to set the record straight and let people know that the movie that was made was not his original vision. He also suggested that Disney, which now owns the rights, should remake the movie using his first script.
In 2023, Ramsey talked more about the movie in an interview, giving more details about why he thought it was not successful.
