Discovering Ancient American Art
This part of the museum holds the special Felipe Orlando García-Murciano collection. It's full of incredible Pre-Columbian art. "Pre-Columbian" means art made before Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas. Many pieces were given as gifts or bought by the Benalmádena town hall.
Where the Art Comes From
The art comes from many different countries in Latin America. You can see items from Mexico, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Peru. These artworks show us how people lived long ago.
Two Main Civilizations
The collection focuses on two main areas where big civilizations grew:
- Mesoamerica: This area includes parts of what is now Mexico.
- Central Andes: This covers parts of what is now Peru.
There's also a section for the "intermediary area." This includes southern Central America and the northern Andes region. Each of these zones has its own special room in the museum. This collection of Pre-Columbian art is one of the largest you'll find outside of Latin America!
Exploring Local History
The museum also has an Archaeological collection. This part shows all the cool objects found during digs in the Benalmádena area. These items tell the story of the region from very old times. They go all the way from Prehistory (before written records) to the time of Ancient Rome. It's like a time capsule of local history!
