Benedicta Sánchez Vila (born October 24, 1934) is a Spanish photographer and actress. She was born in San Fiz de Paradela, Lugo. She became well-known later in life for her acting debut in the film Lo que arde (Fire Will Come).

Her Life Story
Benedicta Sánchez got married when she was 17 years old. After getting married, she moved to Brazil with her husband. In Brazil, she worked in different jobs. She worked in a bar and as a bookseller. For 15 years, she was also a photographer. She stopped working as a photographer in 1979. It's interesting to know that she became a vegetarian at age 17, which was not very common back then.
Becoming an Actress
In 2019, Benedicta Sánchez started her acting career. She played the main role in the movie Lo que arde. This film was directed by Óliver Laxe. The movie was a big success and won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un certain regard section.
In 2020, at the age of 84, Benedicta Sánchez won a very important award. She received the Goya Award for Best New Actress. This made her the oldest actress to ever win this award in that category. She was also the second oldest female performer to win a Goya, only after Julieta Serrano.

In 2019, Sánchez was given the Castelao Medal. This is an award from the Junta de Galicia. In 2019, it was the first time that all the people who received this award were women. Other winners included the canoeist María Teresa Portela Rivas and the cardiologist Marisa Crespo Garrido. That same year, a day care center in O Corgo, her hometown, was named in her honor.
In 2020, she was named "comendadora" of the cocido de Lalín. This is a special title given during the famous Lalín stew festival. The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, also received this honor. In February 2020, the Provincial Council of Lugo also honored Sánchez for her work. This tribute took place in the Pazo de San Marcos.
In 2021, Benedicta Sánchez was recognized again. She received an award during the 31st edition of the Galician of the Year Awards. These awards are given by El Correo Gallego.
