Early Life and Career
Benedicta Sánchez got married when she was 17 years old. She moved to Brazil with her husband. In Brazil, she worked in different jobs. She worked in a bar and as a bookseller. For 15 years, she was a photographer. She stopped working as a photographer in 1979. Benedicta also became a vegetarian at a young age, which was quite unusual at that time.
Becoming an Actress
In 2019, Benedicta Sánchez started her acting career. She played the main role in the movie Lo que arde. This film was directed by Óliver Laxe. The movie won an important award at the Cannes Film Festival. It received the Jury Prize in the Un certain regard section.
In 2020, when she was 84 years old, Benedicta won a big award. She received the Goya Award for Best New Actress. This made her the oldest actress to win in this category. She was the second oldest female performer to win a Goya award ever. Only Julieta Serrano was older, winning at 87 in the same year.
