Óliver Laxe Coro (born April 11, 1982) is a filmmaker from Spain. He was born in France but has family roots in Galicia, Spain. He is known for directing, writing, and sometimes acting in his films.
His first major film, You All Are Captains, won an award at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. His second film, Mimosas, also won a big prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Later, his film Fire Will Come received the Jury Prize at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. His most recent film, Sirāt, also won the Jury Prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Early Life and Education
Óliver Laxe was born in Paris, France. His parents were Galician people who had moved there. They met at a dance party for people from Galicia. Óliver's family on his mother's side comes from a place called Vilela in Navia de Suarna, Lugo.
He has a brother named Felipe, who works as a film producer. Felipe often helps Óliver with his movies. When Óliver was six years old, in 1988, his family moved back to Galicia, Spain. After finishing high school in A Coruña, he went to Barcelona. There, he studied filmmaking at the Pompeu Fabra University. Later, he moved to London and made his first short film, Y las chimeneas decidieron escapar.
Filmmaking Career

Óliver Laxe's first full-length movie was You All Are Captains. It was shown at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI Prize. This award is given by film critics.
His next film, Mimosas, was filmed in the Atlas Mountains. It was shown at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and won the Nespresso Grand Prize. This movie project was developed with help from the TorinoFilmLab program.
After that, Óliver returned to his home region of Galicia. He directed the film Fire Will Come. This movie was shown at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize.
His fourth film, Sirāt, was shown in the main competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. It also won the Jury Prize, which is a very important award.
Personal Life
Óliver Laxe has been living in Navia de Suarna, Lugo, Spain, since 2020. His family house there is called Casa Quindós, named after his grandmother. This house is also used as the main office for the Ser Association. This group helps to promote cultural and environment-friendly activities in the countryside of Galicia.
