Where Does the Beni River Flow?
The Beni River starts its journey north of La Paz, a major city in Bolivia. It flows mainly towards the northeast.
From Highlands to Rainforest
In its upper parts, the river flows through beautiful highland forests and thick rainforests. Here, you can find exciting rapids like those at Cachuela Esperanza. These rapids make it hard for boats to travel upstream.
Through Madidi National Park
As the Beni River continues, it enters a dense rainforest area. Here, it meets other rivers like the Madidi River and the Tuichi River. Both of these rivers flow through the amazing Madidi National Park. The Tuichi River joins the Beni River before it reaches the town of Rurrenabaque.
Into the Savanna
North of Rurrenabaque, the Beni River flows through a wide, flat area. This area is called the Llanos de Moxos, or the Beni Savanna. It is named after the river itself! Finally, the Beni River empties into the larger Madre de Dios River near the town of Riberalta.
Life Around the Beni River
The Beni River is home to many different plants and animals. The rainforests and savannas it flows through are full of wildlife. Many small streams also join the Beni River along its path. These smaller rivers are called tributaries.
Importance for People
The river is very important for the people living nearby. It provides water and helps with transportation. Towns like Rurrenabaque and Riberalta are located along its banks.
