History of Benton Village
Benton got its name from Thomas Hart Benton. He was a well-known U.S. senator from Missouri. Before that, the area was called Swindler's Ridge.
A very important person in Benton's history was Father Samuel Mazzuchelli. He was a pioneer priest who started Saint Patrick's Church in the village. Father Mazzuchelli is buried in the church's cemetery. He is considered a very holy person by the Catholic Church.
