Boeing Integrated Defense Systems used to have its main office in Berkeley. Before Boeing, another big aerospace company called McDonnell Douglas was located in the same spot. Boeing chose this area because it's in the middle of the United States, and the location had a history with aircraft and space programs. Boeing also has a museum exhibition there called the James S. McDonnell Prologue Room, which shows off cool Boeing items. In 2017, Boeing moved its defense unit to Virginia.

Education in Berkeley

Berkeley is part of the Ferguson-Florissant School District. There are several elementary schools that serve students in Berkeley, including Airport Elementary School and Holman Elementary School, which are both inside the city. Other elementary schools outside Berkeley also serve parts of the city.

Berkeley Middle School is located in Berkeley. Older students attend McCluer South-Berkeley High School, which is in a nearby city called Ferguson.

The Berkeley School District first opened in 1937. Over time, the school districts in the area changed. In 1975, a court ordered the Ferguson-Florissant School District to take over the Berkeley School District. This meant that the Ferguson-Florissant district began to serve students in Berkeley. A new high school, McCluer South-Berkeley High School, opened in January 2004.
