Bern Nadette Stanis (born Bernadette Stanislaus on December 22, 1953) is an American actress and author. She is best known for playing Thelma Evans in the popular TV show Good Times. This show was a sitcom that aired from 1974 to 1979. Thelma Evans was the only daughter of Florida and James Evans Sr. in the series.
Besides acting, Bern Nadette Stanis has also written four books. These include Situations 101: Relationships, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, For Men Only, Situations 101: Finances, and The Last Night.

Early Life and Education
Bern Nadette Stanis grew up in Brownsville, a part of Brooklyn, New York City. She was one of five children in her family. Her grandparents on her father's side came from Carriacou in the Grenadine Islands.
For her schooling, she went to Erasmus Hall High School. Later, she studied at the famous Juilliard School, which is known for arts and music. When she was a teenager, Stanis took part in beauty pageants like the Miss Black America contest. She even won the title of Miss Brooklyn and was the first runner-up in the Miss New York state pageant.
Acting Career Highlights
Bern Nadette Stanis became famous for her role as Thelma Ann Evans on the CBS sitcom Good Times. She played this character from February 1974 until August 1979.
After Good Times ended, she appeared in other TV shows. These included The Cosby Show and What's Happening Now!!. She also did voice work for commercials, like one for AT&T, and a commercial for Nationwide Insurance.
Stanis has been part of promotions for the TV One network. In 2009, she was in a special "Thelma" promotion. She appeared with actress Anna Maria Horsford in a "Battle of the Thelmas" that showed their TV wedding scenes. (Anna Maria Horsford played "Thelma Frye" in the show Amen).
In February 2010, for Black History Month, Stanis and her former co-star Jimmie Walker (who played J.J. Evans on Good Times) appeared on a show called Color TV. They shared their memories and thoughts about Good Times. Stanis later appeared on the TV One show Life After. In 2016, she was featured on an episode of Centric's Being, where she talked about her life and career.
Personal Life
Bern Nadette Stanis has two daughters, Dior Ravel and Brittany Rose. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her children.
