The Story of Bernard's Watch
The Original Series (1997-2001)
The first part of the show followed a boy named Bernard. He was played by David Peachey. Bernard lived in Oakwood, Nottinghamshire. He was always late for everything!
One day, a special postman gave Bernard a magic watch. This watch could stop time. It could even rewind time a little bit! Bernard soon learned that the postman had magical powers. He gave these watches to people who really needed them.
There were rules for Bernard to keep the watch. He could not use it to do bad things. He also could not use it to hurt anyone. Each episode showed Bernard using the watch to solve problems. Sometimes he would lend the watch to a friend. They would use it to help with everyday challenges.
The New Adventures (2004-2005)
The show changed a bit in its later series. In these new episodes, the watch just flew into Bernard's window. The magical postman character was not in this version. Bernard seemed to be the only person with such a watch.
His best friend, Nathan, knew about the watch's secret. These new stories mostly happened at Bernard's school. It was called Pentup Primary. Bernard often used the watch to outsmart his teacher, Ms. Yvonne Savage. He also sometimes dealt with a popular girl named Nicolette.
By this time, a new actor played Bernard. Ryan Watson took over the role. David Peachey, the original Bernard, had moved on. He was studying art in Venice.
The Bernard's Watch Book
Besides the TV show, Andrew Norriss also wrote a book. It was based on the series and came out in 1999. In the book, Bernard gets the watch from his elderly aunt. She had received it from her husband.
The book version of the watch had a small side effect. Using it often would use up iron in the user's blood. So, Bernard had to take iron vitamins regularly. This was different from the TV show. The book also showed Bernard living only with his dad. His mom had passed away before the story began.
