Bernardo Pardo (born February 11, 1932) is a very important person in the history of Philippine law. He served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, which is the highest court in the country. Before that, he was the Chairman of the Commission on Elections, often called COMELEC.
He was born in Manila on February 11, 1932. His parents, Dr. and Mrs. Leopoldo G. Pardo, were from San Isidro, Nueva Ecija. He is married to Zenaida C. De Dios, and they have four children: Lourdes, Bernardita, Mercedes Patricia, and Victor.

Education and Early Career
Bernardo Pardo was a bright student. He finished high school with honors from Letran College in 1950. He then studied Law at the University of Santo Tomas, graduating in 1955.
He passed the bar examinations on March 6, 1956, with a good score of 81.55%. This meant he could officially become a lawyer. Later, in 1978, he became a special student, called a fellow, at the Academy of American and International Law in the University of Texas, USA.
A Career in Law and Public Service
Bernardo Pardo started his career as a lawyer in a private law office from 1955 to 1961. He then worked for the government as a Solicitor from 1971 to 1974.
He also served as a judge in different courts. He was an Acting City Judge in Manila from 1965 to 1967. Later, he became a judge in Caloocan from 1974 to 1983. From 1983 to 1993, he was a judge for the Regional Trial Court in Manila.
Leading the Commission on Elections
In 1993, he became a Justice in the Court of Appeals. This court reviews decisions made by lower courts. His career continued to advance.
In 1995, President Fidel Ramos appointed him as the Chairman of the COMELEC. The COMELEC is a very important government body that makes sure elections in the Philippines are fair and honest. He led COMELEC until 1998.
Serving on the Supreme Court
On September 30, 1998, President Joseph Estrada appointed Bernardo Pardo as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. This is one of the highest positions a lawyer can hold in the country.
As a Supreme Court Justice, he helped make important decisions that affected the entire nation. He served on the Supreme Court until he retired on February 11, 2002.
