Bernard Patrick Morris (born August 21, 1890 – died May 16, 1963) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was a talented centre who played for many teams. He is best known for his time with the Seattle Metropolitans. He played for them from 1915 to 1923.

In 1917, the Metropolitans made history. They became the first U.S.-based team to win the Stanley Cup. This is one of the oldest and most famous trophies in sports. Bernie Morris was a huge part of that win. He scored an amazing 14 goals in the Stanley Cup series that year! Morris also played for teams like the Calgary Tigers and the Boston Bruins.

Bernie Morris was born in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. He started his hockey career playing for different teams in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In 1914, he joined the Victoria Aristocrats. This team was part of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA).

The next season, Morris moved to Seattle. He played eight seasons for the Seattle Metropolitans. He was a key player on the team that won the Stanley Cup in 1917. His performance in the 1917 series was outstanding. He scored 14 goals in just four games. This helped his team win the championship.

A Challenge During His Career

Morris was set to play in the 1919 Stanley Cup series. However, he faced a problem with his military registration in the United States. He was jailed for a period of time because of this issue. Even though he was from Canada, he was expected to register for military service. He was later honorably released.

After this challenge, Morris returned to hockey. He played in the 1920 series for Seattle. He continued to be a strong player for the Metropolitans.

Moving to New Teams

In October 1923, Morris was traded to the Calgary Tigers. He played for the Tigers in the 1924 series. They played against Montreal for the championship. Morris spent about a season and a half with Calgary.

He was then traded again. First, he went to the Montreal Maroons. Then, on January 3, 1925, he joined the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played a short time for Boston. In February 1925, he returned west to play for the Regina Capitals.

Bernie Morris finished his hockey career between 1925 and 1930. He played for several minor league teams during this time. These teams were in leagues like the California Pro League and the International League. After playing, Morris also managed the Hamilton Tigers for two seasons. He made his home in Hamilton, Ontario.

Bernie Morris was recognized for his great play. He was often chosen as one of the best players in his league.
