Bete-ombro facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bete-ombro is a fun street game from Brazil. It's a bit like cricket, but played in a simpler way, often in parks or on the street. People also call it tacobol, bets, or pau na lata.

In Bete-ombro, two teams play against each other. Each team has two players. One team tries to hit the ball with a bat and score points. The other team tries to throw the ball and get the batters out. The game uses two "wickets," which can be anything like plastic bottles or sticks.

How to Play Bete-ombro

This section explains the basic rules of Bete-ombro. It's easy to learn and fun to play with friends!

Starting the Game

The game begins with one player from the "bowling" team throwing the ball. They throw it from one wicket towards the other. A player from the "batting" team stands at the second wicket, holding a bat. Their goal is to hit the ball.

Scoring Points

When the batter hits the ball, they can run between the two wickets. Their partner, who is waiting at the other wicket, also runs. They cross paths as they run to the opposite wicket. Each time both players successfully switch wickets, the batting team scores a point. They can keep running and scoring points as long as the ball is not returned to the wickets.

Getting Players Out

The "bowling" team tries to get the batters out. If they throw the ball and hit a wicket before a batting player reaches it, that player is out. Also, if the "bowling" team catches the ball after it's hit, the batter is out. When both players from the batting team are out, the teams switch roles. The team that was bowling now gets to bat, and the batting team becomes the bowling team. The game continues until one team reaches a set score, or for a certain amount of time.
