Bettina, also known as Bessie Walker, was an amazing Irish musician. She was a talented pianist and composer who lived from 1837 to 1893.

Bettina Walker's Life

Bettina was born in Dublin, Ireland. Her father, William Augustus Walker, was a doctor, but he passed away when she was very young, in 1838.

Her Musical Training

Bettina loved music and studied piano in the 1870s. She learned from some of the most famous musicians of her time! She first studied with William Sterndale Bennett in London. Then, she went to Berlin to learn from Carl Tausig. She also studied in Rome with Giovanni Sgambati.

In 1883, Bettina moved to Weimar to continue her studies. There, she had the incredible opportunity to learn from Franz Liszt, a world-famous composer and pianist. She also learned from other great teachers like Ludwig Deppe, Xaver Scharwenka, and Adolf Henselt.

Teaching and Memoirs

After her teacher Adolf Henselt died in 1889, Bettina settled in Fulham, a part of London. She started teaching her own special way of playing the piano. Sadly, she passed away just four years later, in 1893.

Bettina's most important contribution is her book of memories. In this book, she wrote all about her many meetings and experiences with important musicians. These writings help us understand more about the music world of her time.
