Beverly Beach, Oregon facts for kids
Beverly Beach is a charming, small community found along the stunning Oregon Coast in the U.S. state of Oregon. It's located in Lincoln County, a bit north of a famous spot called Yaquina Head and just south of the popular Beverly Beach State Park. This area is known for its amazing ocean views and sandy shores.
Discovering Beverly Beach
Beverly Beach is what's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's usually managed by the county it's in, which in this case is Lincoln County. It sits right on U.S. Route 101, a major highway that runs along the entire Oregon coastline.
How Beverly Beach Got Its Name
The name "Beverly Beach" has a sweet story behind it! It was chosen in the early 1930s by a couple named Curtis F. and Florence May Christy. They owned the land in this beautiful coastal spot and dreamed of creating a new seaside community there.
To decide on a name, they asked their young daughter, Florence Daneene Christy (who later became Florence Daneene Pearson), for her ideas. Florence had a favorite doll, and its name was Beverly. So, she suggested naming the new community "Beverly Beach," and that's exactly what they did! It's a lovely way to remember a child's simple, favorite thing.
