Who is Bev Gannon?
Bev Gannon was born Beverly Shanbaum in Dallas, Texas. She went to the University of Colorado. In the early 1970s, she worked in the entertainment world. She helped manage tours for famous singers like Liza Minnelli. In 1977, she studied cooking at a famous school called Le Cordon Bleu in London. After that, she started her own catering business in Dallas. A catering business makes food for parties and events.
Moving to Hawaii and Opening Restaurants
In 1980, Bev Gannon moved to Maui, Hawaii. She moved with Joe Gannon, who she married a year later. Joe was a producer for music concerts. Bev started her catering business again from her home kitchen in Makawao. This area is known as Maui's Upcountry.
In 1987, the Gannons took over a building called the Hali'imaile General Store. It was an old building from 1925 in Haliimaile. They opened a restaurant there in 1988. This restaurant quickly became very popular and successful.
Expanding Her Restaurants
Bev Gannon later opened more restaurants in Wailea. She opened Joe's in 1995 and Gannon's in 2009. She also created recipes for a restaurant at the Hotel Lanaʻi on the island of Lanaʻi. From 1999 to 2010, Bev Gannon was also the main chef for Hawaiian Airlines. This meant she created the meals served on their flights.
In 2015, Joe's restaurant tried a new menu and changed its name to Joe's Nuevo Latino. However, the new menu was not very popular. Joe's restaurant closed in August 2015. Bev Gannon continues to run her other successful restaurants.
