Bhutanese animation facts for kids
Bhutanese animation is a special kind of animation made in the country of Bhutan. It's often used to teach people about important topics. For example, it helps explain social issues, how the economy works, or even politics. It also helps share and celebrate Bhutanese culture.
Many people in Bhutan believe that animated videos are a better way to share information than printed papers like brochures. For instance, an animation called Ap Naka was created to teach people about earthquakes and how to stay safe.

The Start of Animation in Bhutan
The animation industry in Bhutan is quite new. It began to grow in the early 2000s.
First 3D Animation
Pema Tshering D made the very first 3D-animated film in Bhutan. This happened in 2001. His first animation showed a beetle dancing! Later, he made an important public awareness animation called Oye Penjor. This film was about AIDS and took about three months to create. It was a big step for Bhutanese animation. Pema Tshering D made this film with his own company, Druk Vision Studio.
Major Animation Studios
In 2005, two important animation studios were started in Bhutan. These were Druk Vision Studio and KLK anImagine. KLK anImagine is owned by Kinga Sithup.
First 2D Animation
KLK anImagine made the first 2D animation in Bhutan. This animation was part of a campaign to teach people about rubella, a type of illness.
How Animators Work
Bhutanese animators often work with a specific number of frames per second. Sometimes, they split 10 frames into 25 frames. Other times, they animate using 24 frames per second. By 2008, Druk Vision Studio had made about 7 animated films. KLK anImagine had created even more, around 20 animated films.
Bhutan's First Full-Length 3D Film
The first full-length 3D-animated movie from Bhutan is called Ap Bokto. It was released in September 2014. This movie was made by Athang Animation Studio, which started in 2010.
