Bibi Sahib Kaur (1771–1801) was a brave Sikh princess. She was the older sister of Raja Sahib Singh Sidhu, who ruled Patiala. She is remembered for her strong leadership and courage in battles.

A Princess Who Led Armies

Bibi Sahib Kaur's brother, Raja Sahib Singh, called her back after her marriage. In 1793, he gave her a very important job: she became his prime minister. This meant she was a top advisor and helped run the government of Patiala.

But Bibi Sahib Kaur was more than just an advisor. She was also a skilled military leader! She led armies into battle against the Marathas, who were powerful warriors from another part of India. She was one of the few Punjabi Sikh women who won battles against a Maratha general named Antta Rao. One famous battle she fought in was the Battle of Mardanpur.

Facing George Thomas

Another challenge came from George Thomas. He was an Irish adventurer who had taken control of areas like Hisar and Hansi in what is now Haryana. George Thomas wanted to make his territory even bigger. He decided to attack the Sikh lands to the north, marching towards Jind.

Bibi Sahib Kaur bravely led her forces against George Thomas. Her strong leadership and military skills helped her army force him to retreat from Jind. This was a big victory for her and her people, showing her great courage and strategic mind.
