Big Isaac is a small community located in Doddridge County, West Virginia, in the United States. It's not a big city or a town with its own local government. Instead, it's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it's a group of homes and people living together without being officially part of a city.

Where is Big Isaac?

This quiet community is found about 6 miles (or 9.7 kilometers) south-southeast of a place called Salem. It sits along a small stream known as Laurel Run. This stream is one of the very first parts of a larger waterway called Meathouse Fork.

How Did Big Isaac Get Its Name?

The name "Big Isaac" has a fun story behind it! People say the community was named after an early settler. His name was Periue Isaac, and he was known for having unusually large feet and needing a very big shoe size. Because of this, people started calling him "Big" Isaac, and the name stuck for the whole community.

A Look at the Past

Like many small communities, Big Isaac once had its own post office. This was a central place where people could send and receive mail. However, the Big Isaac post office officially closed its doors on December 31, 1962. After that, mail services for the area were handled by nearby post offices.
