The Bilbao City Hall is a very important building in Bilbao, Spain. It's where the Bilbao City Council meets. The City Council is like the local government for the city. They make decisions about how Bilbao is run.

You can find the City Hall right next to the Estuary of Bilbao, which is like a river arm. It's connected to the central Abando district by the Puente del Ayuntamiento. This bridge is special because it's a bascule bridge, meaning it can open up to let boats pass!

History of Bilbao City Hall

The current Bilbao City Hall was built a long time ago. Work started in 1883 and finished in 1892. It was designed by an architect named Joaquín Rucoba. The building stands where an old convent used to be, in the Uribarri area of the city.

Before 1890, the Bilbao City Council had its offices in a different building. That old building was located in the Old Town part of Bilbao.

Building Style and Special Rooms

The City Hall was built in the beautiful Baroque style. This style often features grand designs and lots of decoration.

One of the most amazing parts of the building is the Arab Hall. This room is incredibly detailed and looks like something you might see in the famous Alhambra palace in Granada. It's decorated in a style called Neo-Mudéjar, which mixes Christian and Islamic art. The Arab Hall is used for important events, like official meetings and even weddings!
