Bill Doss (born September 12, 1968 – died July 30, 2012) was an American musician. He played rock music. He helped start a music group called The Elephant 6 Recording Company. This group was in Athens, Georgia. Bill was also a very important member of the band The Olivia Tremor Control. After that band broke up, he led his own band, The Sunshine Fix. Later, he joined another band called The Apples in Stereo. Bill Doss was married to Amy Hairston Doss. She is a photographer. They met when they were both in college.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Bill Doss grew up in Dubach, Louisiana. There, he met his friends Will Cullen Hart, Robert Schneider, and Jeff Mangum. They all went to Ruston High School. Before joining The Olivia Tremor Control, Bill recorded music under the name The Sunshine Fix. He even released an album called A Spiraling World of Pop. Some of these songs later became part of The Olivia Tremor Control's music. Bill also spent some time in the army. After that, he joined a band in New York called Chocolate USA. Later, he moved back to Athens, Georgia, where he lived until he passed away.

The Olivia Tremor Control

Bill Doss, Will Cullen Hart, and Jeff Mangum soon formed the band that became The Olivia Tremor Control. After Jeff Mangum left to start his own band, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bill and Will combined their musical ideas. Will liked to experiment with music. Bill loved pop music from the 1960s. He was a big fan of bands like The Beatles, the Beach Boys, and The Zombies. The band released a second album called Black Foliage. After that, The Olivia Tremor Control broke up in the year 2000.

After The Olivia Tremor Control, Bill Doss started his band The Sunshine Fix again. Their first full album, Age of the Sun, came out in 2002. In 2004, The Sunshine Fix released another album called Green Imagination. This album had cool artwork and videos by Kevin Evans.

In 2006, Bill started playing keyboards for the band The Apples in Stereo. He played on their 2007 album, New Magnetic Wonder. By 2010, he was a full member of the band. He helped write songs for their album Travellers in Space and Time. At the time of his death, Bill Doss was producing music for other artists in his own studio in Athens.

Bill Doss's Passing

Bill Doss passed away on July 30, 2012. His death was caused by an aneurysm.
