William Goldwyn Nunn III (born October 20, 1953 – died September 24, 2016) was an American actor. He was well-known for playing Radio Raheem in Spike Lee's movie Do the Right Thing. He also played Robbie Robertson in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. Another famous role was Terrence "Pip" Phillips on the TV show The Job.

Early life

Bill Nunn III was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His father, William G. Nunn, Jr., was a journalist and editor for the Pittsburgh Courier. He also worked as a National Football League scout, finding new players. Bill's grandfather was the first African American football player at George Westinghouse High School.

Bill Nunn went to Schenley High School and graduated in 1970. Later, he went to Morehouse College and finished in 1976. While at college, he met the famous director Spike Lee. Bill Nunn appeared in some of Lee's first movies.

Career

Bill Nunn's first credited movie role was in the 1988 Spike Lee film School Daze. He became very famous for playing Radio Raheem in Lee's movie Do the Right Thing. He also played "Duh Duh Duh Man," the bodyguard for Nino Brown, in New Jack City.

He worked with Spike Lee on other movies like Mo' Better Blues and He Got Game. Bill Nunn also appeared in many other films. These include Sister Act, Canadian Bacon, and Runaway Jury. He was also in the Spider-Man trilogy as Joseph "Robbie" Robertson. You might also remember him from the TV series The Job.

Besides movies and TV, Bill Nunn also performed on stage. He was in August Wilson's play Fences, which is set in Pittsburgh. He also cared a lot about his community. In 2008, he started his own outreach project in the Pittsburgh area to help people.

Death

Bill Nunn passed away on September 24, 2016, at his home in Pittsburgh. He was 62 years old. His wife, Donna, shared that he had leukemia, a type of cancer.
