Bill Schmitz (born March 30, 1954 – died August 26, 2013) was an American football coach. He was known for leading college football teams.

Bill Schmitz's Coaching Journey

Bill Schmitz had a long career coaching football. He worked with many different teams. He started as an assistant coach. Then he became a head coach for college teams.

Early Coaching Roles

Schmitz began his coaching career in 1981. He was an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati. Later, he coached at Rice University. He also worked at Vanderbilt University. In 1992, he coached the London Monarchs. This team was part of the World League of American Football. He helped train their quarterbacks and wide receivers.

Leading College Teams

Bill Schmitz became a head coach in 1993. He led the Coast Guard Academy football team. He coached them until 1996. During his time there, the team had a good record. In 1996, they won their conference championship. This was a big achievement for the team. They even made it to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

After Coast Guard, Schmitz moved to Austin Peay State University. He was the head coach there from 1997 to 2002. He worked hard to improve the team. His overall record as a head coach was 39 wins and 65 losses.

Later Coaching Years

After his college coaching, Schmitz also coached high school teams. He worked at Jesuit High School in Florida. He also coached at Land O' Lakes High School. He continued to share his football knowledge. He also returned to college coaching as an assistant. He coached at UAB and Penn.
