Musical Career
Billie Myers began her music career in the late 1990s. In 1999, she was nominated for a Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist.
Myers is also known for her work supporting young people. She is an ambassador for the Jed Foundation and supports The Mindfull Initiative, both of which help young people with their mental well-being.
Debut Album: Growing, Pains (1997)
Myers released her first album, Growing, Pains, in 1997. The album was a big success and earned a "gold" certification in the United States. This means it sold over 500,000 copies!
Myers wrote or co-wrote every song on the album. Before this, she had never written songs but had kept journals for years. This experience helped her with the songwriting process.
The Success of "Kiss the Rain"
The album's first single, "Kiss the Rain", became a huge hit. It reached number 4 on the music charts in the United Kingdom. In the United States, it climbed to number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and stayed on the chart for 31 weeks.
The song was featured in the popular American TV show Dawson's Creek. A dance remix of "Kiss the Rain" by the team Thunderpuss became a number 1 hit on the dance charts.
Other Singles from the Album
Her next single, "Tell Me", was also successful, reaching number 25 on the U.S. Adult Top 40 chart. Myers later said she was a little disappointed that "Tell Me" didn't become as big a hit as "Kiss the Rain".
Before her next album, Myers also recorded the main song for the movie Down to You.
Second Album: Vertigo (2000)
In 2000, Myers released her second album, Vertigo. The main single was called "Am I Here Yet? (Return to Sender)". A dance remix of this song by DJ Junior Vasquez also reached number 1 on the dance charts.
Myers felt proud of this album because she had more control over how it was made. The magazine Billboard praised the album for its "fearless set that intertwines deft pop hooks, wickedly honest lyrics, and vibrant rhythms".
Later Music
In 2005, Myers released a new single. A remix of the song reached number 8 on the Billboard Dance Chart.
In 2013, she released her third album, Tea and Sympathy. She had shared it with her fans earlier in 2009 before its official release.
