Bindloss is a tiny community called a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada. It is part of a special region known as Special Area No. 2. This area was created because of tough times like the Great Depression and droughts in the 1930s.
The Special Areas Board helps manage these regions. They act like a local government, providing services such as water, emergency help, and road maintenance. They also look after public land and help with farming.
Bindloss is about 10 kilometers west of Highway 41. It is also about 97 kilometers north of the city of Medicine Hat.
The hamlet was named after Harold Edward Bindloss, an English writer. He wrote many adventure stories set in the American West. Not much of the original town site is left today.
In 2017, a large fire affected Bindloss. It started at Canadian Forces Base Suffield when they were trying to get rid of old explosives. The fire spread, burning over 278 square kilometers of land. Sadly, 260 cattle died because of this fire.
