The Bioko Allen's bushbaby (Sciurocheirus alleni) is a small, furry animal. It is also known as the Bioko squirrel galago. This animal is a type of primate, like monkeys and apes.

You can find the Bioko Allen's bushbaby in Cameroon, Nigeria, and on the island of Bioko. This island is part of Equatorial Guinea. These bushbabies live in warm, dry forests. Scientists say this animal is "near-threatened." This means it could become endangered if we don't protect its habitat.

What's in a Name? (Taxonomy)

Scientists give every animal a special name. This helps everyone know exactly which animal they are talking about. The Bioko Allen's bushbaby was first named Galago alleni in 1838 by a scientist named George Robert Waterhouse.

Later, in 1863, another scientist, John Edward Gray, decided it needed its own special group. So, he put it in a new group called Sciurocheirus. This is why its full scientific name is Sciurocheirus alleni. Over time, scientists have learned more about these bushbabies. They found that there are actually three different types that look very similar. Each of these types is now considered its own species.

It also has a long tail, which is about 23 to 30 centimeters (9 to 12 inches) long. This bushbaby weighs between 300 and 410 grams (about 10 to 14 ounces). That's about the weight of a can of soda.
