A Musical Journey
Björn Skifs began his music career in 1962. He formed his first band, Slam Creepers. After a few years, in 1969, the band split up.
In 1972, Björn started a new band called Blåblus. This name was a fun play on words, sounding like "blue blouse" but also "blues." When they became famous internationally, they changed their name to Blue Swede. As the lead singer of Blue Swede, Björn had a number one hit song in 1974. It was a cover of "Hooked on a Feeling" and became super popular on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.
Björn also started a solo career. In 1975, he recorded a duet called Med varann with Anni-Frid Lyngstad, who was a member of the famous group ABBA.
Stage and Screen
In 1984, Björn Skifs appeared on the original album for the musical Chess. He played the role of The Arbiter. A song and video called The Arbiter (I Know the Score) were released in 1985.
Björn has also been honored for his work. In 1984, he received the Karamelodiktstipendiet award from Povel Ramel, a well-known Swedish entertainer.
Eurovision and Beyond
Björn Skifs has represented Sweden twice in the Eurovision Song Contest. He competed in the 1978 contest and again in the 1981 contest. In 2000, he was one of the hosts for Melodifestivalen, which is the Swedish competition to pick their Eurovision entry.
In 2002, Björn had a big hit song called "Håll mitt hjärta" (which means "Hold My Heart"). This song was a Swedish version of Same Ol' Story by Peter Hallström. It was incredibly popular and stayed on the Svensktoppen chart for 142 weeks, from 2003 to 2006!
More recently, Björn performed "Hooked on a Feeling" as the opening act for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 on May 11.
