The Black Bulga State Conservation Area is a special protected area in New South Wales, Australia. It's located near the Barrington Tops in the Hunter Region. This conservation area covers about 1,554 hectares. That's like 3,800 football fields! It's only about 16 kilometers from the town of Dungog. This land used to be part of two different state forests, Trevor and Chichester.

What Makes It Special?

Protecting the Park

In 2013, the future of this park was at risk. The Government of New South Wales suggested allowing logging in some protected areas. This worried many people.

A group called the Black Bulga Range Action Group stepped in. This group was made up of local people and others who cared about the area. They had helped make the park a State Conservation Area back in 2003. Thanks to their hard work, they successfully protected this unique bushland.

Amazing Plants

The Black Bulga State Conservation Area is home to many different plants. You can find wet sclerophyll eucalyptus forests here. These forests have tall gum trees.

Some of the trees that were once logged here include Sydney blue gum, tallowwood, white mahogany, and spotted gum.

The area also has Rainforest sections. Here, you can see different types of rainforest trees. These include Australian red cedar, scentless rosewood, native tamarind, citronella, and rose maple. At higher places, you might spot tall grass trees.

Wonderful Wildlife

This conservation area is a great place for animals too. Many marsupials live here. You might see Koalas, eastern grey kangaroos, red-necked wallabies, and greater gliders. These are just some of the amazing creatures that call Black Bulga home.
