Black Dog (Chinese: 狗阵; pinyin: Gou Zhen) is a 2024 Chinese film. It was directed by Guan Hu and stars Eddie Peng.
The movie first showed at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2024. It won a special award there called the Un Certain Regard prize.
About the Story
The film tells the story of Lang, played by Eddie Peng. Lang used to be a stunt motorcyclist. He returns to his hometown, which is near the Gobi desert.
Lang needs to avoid a tough local person who is angry with him. This person holds a grudge against Lang.
Lang then decides to help with a project to find wild dogs. This project was part of preparing for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. During this time, Lang forms a special friendship with one of the dogs.

Making the Movie
The director, Guan Hu, wanted to show the lives of everyday people. He wanted to show how their lives changed as China grew quickly. The actors were chosen to make the story feel very real.
A cool fact about the movie is about the dog, Xin. Eddie Peng, the actor, became very close to Xin during filming. He loved the dog so much that he adopted Xin after the movie was finished!
