Black Lake is a large lake located in northern New York State, United States. It is the biggest lake in Saint Lawrence County. The lake lies just south of the famous Saint Lawrence River. It runs parallel to the river for many miles.

This lake was formed a very long time ago, about 12,000 years ago. It was created by the melting of huge sheets of ice called glaciers. These glaciers once covered much of the state.

Water flows into Black Lake from several smaller rivers and creeks. The largest river flowing into it is the Indian River. The lake's water then flows out into the Oswegatchie River. From there, it eventually reaches the Saint Lawrence River. The northeast part of the lake is located south of the city of Ogdensburg, New York.

The Mohawk people, who are Native Americans, had a special name for this lake. They called it Kanientàrhón:tsi. This name means "lake is black" in their language.
