The Black River is a river found in North Queensland, Queensland, Australia. It's an important natural feature in the region.

Where Does the Black River Flow?

The Black River starts high up in the Great Dividing Range. This is a big mountain range in Australia. It begins near a place called Ben Lomond East.

From there, the river flows towards the northeast. It runs alongside the Hervey Range Developmental Road. You can see it near Mount Cataract and Mount Black. These are on the Bohle Plains.

Journey to the Sea

The river crosses under the Bruce Highway near Kulburr. Finally, it flows into the Coral Sea. The Coral Sea is part of the Pacific Ocean. The river's mouth is between Yabulu and Beach Holm. This spot is about 10 kilometres (6 mi) northwest of Townsville.

The Black River is about 33-kilometre (21 mi) long. It drops about 84 metres (276 ft) from its start to the sea. The area that collects water for the river is called its catchment. This area is about 1,060 square kilometres (409 sq mi). It includes wetlands, which are like marshy areas.
