Blackie is a small community called a hamlet in Alberta, Canada. It is located within the Foothills County. You can find Blackie about 70 kilometers (43 miles) southeast of Calgary on Highway 799.
Blackie's Story
This community was named after John Stuart Blackie, who was a famous Scottish scholar. Blackie used to be a "village," which is a slightly larger type of community than a hamlet. It officially became a village on December 30, 1912. However, on August 31, 1997, Blackie changed back to being a hamlet.
