Foothills County is a special kind of local government area called a municipal district. It is located in southern Alberta, Canada. It sits right next to the big city of Calgary. Even though it's close to Calgary, it's a separate area. Foothills County is part of the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board, which helps plan for the future of the whole region.

History of Foothills County
Foothills County has had a few different names over the years. It was first created on January 1, 1954. Back then, it was called the Municipal District (MD) of Sheep River No. 31. This new district was formed by combining parts of several smaller areas.
Just a few months later, on March 25, 1954, its name was changed. It became the MD of Foothills No. 31. Then, on January 1, 2019, the name changed one more time to what it is today: Foothills County.

Population and Demographics

In 2021, Statistics Canada counted the population of Foothills County. There were 23,199 people living there. This was a small increase from 2016, when the population was 22,616.
